WELCOME

Welcome to Sunrise Christian School, Whyalla!

Thank you for choosing to investigate what we have to offer your child and family.

The development of Sunrise Christian School, Whyalla has been an exciting journey for us. Our numbers have increased from 47 to over 190 in just 4 years. We have also introduced an Early Learning Centre and the very popular Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Programme during this time.

I began my teaching career in Adelaide and worked at a few schools teaching across both the Primary and Secondary areas. My wife and I moved to Whyalla at the beginning of 2012 to take up a leadership role of Deputy as well as a classroom teacher.

Sunrise has established community orientated, low fee paying schools to support local communities.

As a school, we have a strong focus on the development of a child’s character and the development of the uniqueness of each child.  A strong, well supported curriculum and accessibility to a broad range of expertise within the Sunrise School Network, helps increase our capacity to provide the support required in the learning process.  The ongoing focus on explicit teaching with the ‘Fleming Model’ is also providing excellent results in literacy and numeracy.

This year we continue to see a rapid increase in the number ofour enrolments and have appointed 3 new teaching staff. We are pleased to offer a strong Learning Support Team this year to support student learning, as well as specialist subjects in Information Technology, Physical Education Drama and Spanish.

We have been actively involved in establishing our new Sunrise Bethel School in Port Moresby, PNG for underprivileged children. This has been a wonderful opportunity for our staff and students to engage with other students in a different culture.

As a school, we seek to support parents in the development of their children through building positive relationships within a supportive school environment.
