WELCOME

Welcome to Sunrise Christian School, Whyalla.  We are thrilled that you have chosen to investigate what the Whyalla site of Sunrise Christian School has to offer your child.  We pride ourselves in providing an excellent educational environment for Christian parents desiring a Biblical Christian education for their children from the early years at our Early Learning Centre to Grade 7.  At Sunrise we approach the eight areas of learning with the aim to successfully educate each student to achieve personal excellence and develop the attributes of a quality leader to help fulfil their God given destiny.  We encourage our teachers to be an extension of the home to make the most of those ’teachable moments’ to train and reinforce right behaviour to honour and glorify God, and to instil a healthy and rounded world view.

history of Whyalla Christian School

When the Assembly of God church in Whyalla was built the leadership had a vision to commence a school on their property. This vision was finally carried out and Whyalla Christian School opened in February 1989 with 34 students. The first Principal was Paul Duff and he acted in this role for 3 years. Vikas Beri stepped in as Principal for 1992 but John Thompson took over that role from 1993 to 1996. As numbers grew there was a need for more space. Commonwealth BGA Grants were accepted in 1998 and 2001, with further building undertaken in 2000, 2001 & 2002. It was in 1997 that Barbara Schottelius joined the team at Whyalla Christian School and she was in the position as Principal for 12 years.
